The Cookie Jar Pastry Shop has been an icon on Shore Road in Cape Elizabeth since the 1950’s. It has changed owners only four times in the past 60 years and is currently owned by Tom and Donna Piscopo.

The Piscopo Family has owned and operated the business since 1972 when Tom’s parents Grace and Ikey Piscopo purchased it.

Tom joined his Mom soon after at the age of twelve. He washed pots, cleaned the floors and began learning the bakery business from the ground up. It was truly heartwarming to watch the two of them work side by side. Tom developed her sense of pride and love for baking that still shows today in everything he creates.

Donna joined the team in 1976 after she met Tom in high school. In 1981 as newlyweds, they bought the bakery from Tom’s parents. Today they work together to operate the business as it continues to grow and flourish with thanks to their faithful customers. You can often find them in the bakery 16-18 hours a day. There truly is nowhere else they would rather be.

The recipes are the original recipes with all of the same ingredients and handmade goodness. There have been a few new items added to the menu but as they often hear, ”Oh my goodness it even smells the same!!”

The Storm

The Storm


A storm blew in from the southeast and ripped the roof off the bakery. It was completely demolished. For Donna and Tom, it was the most devastating day of their life. The reopening was delayed for over three years but The Piscopo’s never gave up.

With the help of Jon Smith and his crew at Great Falls Construction they were able to reopen on May 27th, 2010. Thanks to their hard work and faith in each other Tom and Donna persevered and held onto their dream.

The Piscopo’s have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and good wishes. There is not one day that goes by without hearing “We are so glad you are back!!”

Tom and Donna are thrilled to have had a second chance at working and living the life of their bakery. Thank you for your continued support.
